I live by this.
I had a conversation tonight with my friend who’s a server and I’m a host. We talked about how everyone should be a restaurant employee at least once just so you understand what it actually is like.
My kid sister tells me to stop “acting like that” to waiters/servers/hosts/associates/managers etc. So what if my demeanor changes and I give them a smile and say thank you and actually mean it and want to know if they are having a good day? I worked in retail where that was my job, to literally wait on customers hand and foot. I know what it’s like to have an asshole customer and how shitty that one person can make your entire day. Besides they are providing me a service and they deserve to be treated with respect just like everyone else if not more. So if I smile and am more cheery that’s how I make sure they know I appreciate what they are doing, besides tipping them well.
